This artwork was inspired by the delicate and distinctive shape of a pencil pine at the edge of Dove Lake, which lies at the base of Cradle Mountain, in the beautiful Tasmanian central highlands.
The wet foliage was all fresh greens and subtle but intense soft reds and oranges. I was a visitor to this area during an overcast and drizzly day – actually great conditions to see this area because the dampness seemed to intensify the complex colours of the alpine foliage. The mountains across the water receded into the mist giving the whole place an almost a magical, mystical feel.
