Brookfield Lavender Farm lies in farmland between Kingston and Margate, just down the Channel Highway from my home. While the field in no longer planted with lavender, it has for many years put on a beautiful display through spring and summer. Purple – or at least a large expanses of deep purple – is very rarely seen in my experience of landscape, and this makes it particularly striking. This artwork depicts the lavender fields on a cloudy, slightly drizzly day in summer when deepness of the forest greens and lavender blues were enhanced by the gentle filtered light conditions.
