I was walking along White Beach (Tasman Peninsula) at dusk when I crossed a tiny rivulet that drained into the sea. The air was cold with a light wind, and the water was dark and choppy. The sun was low in the sky behind a dark bank of cloud, and its light was reflected most brightly on the wet sand, an effect that became the inspiration and focus of this artwork.
I created gradients of colour and tone to depict the reflective effect of the wet sand, and used muted colours throughout to emphasise the brightness of the sky. This artwork is a celebration of that last flash of light before sunset.
