For visitors to the Mount Field National Park it is an easy walk through temperate rainforest to visit Russell Falls, one of the best known and beautiful waterfalls in Tasmania. After viewing it from below, you can follow a track that climbs up the side of the falls to the top, to stand where the river meets the first cascade near an old mossy tree. The swirling pattern of the water inspired this artwork, which I have represented via the sharp contrast between the floating froth and sky reflections, and the dark tannin waters. I also love the subtle colour transitions of this scene as it recedes in to the distance, from the rich, rainforest mossy greens of the foreground, to the olive greens of the eucalyptus-dominated forest beyond, to the blue greens of the distant hills.
